About YCGC

The Choir

The York City Gospel Choir was formed in 2007 to celebrate the powerful and inspirational tradition of gospel music. Drawing on musical talents from in and around York, the choir performs a range of traditional and contemporary gospel. YCGC is a community choir performing extensively in and around York, at a wide variety of functions, and as far afield as Blackpool and Northumberland. It supports charity events, church events, community events and corporate functions. The choir's first CD - "Total Praise" - was released in November 2008, followed by "Thank You" in 2010, "Speak To My Heart" in 2012 and "Welcome in 2014".

EARLY HIGHLIGHTS

In October 2010, the choir was invited to support the Pearl of Africa Children's Choir at the Grand Opera House in York. In December 2010 and 2011, the choir provided the entertainment at a Christmas dinner at the prestigious 'Feversham Arms' Spa Hotel in Helmsley. In March 2011, the choir 'raised the roof' (quote from the Selby Times) in a packed Selby Abbey at the Council Chairman's Charity Event. In October 2011, the choir performed by floodlight to an audience of 200+ in the ruins of Fountains Abbey, Ripon and later, in December, performed to a packed Long Gallery at Castle Howard.

MORE RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

In August 2012, the choir was delighted to be part of the annual Festival of Entertainment and Visual Arts in Knaresborough and the York International Festival of Faith and Culture in April 2013. The choir has recently visited the Archbishop of York's Palace to record songs for his website. Numerous other churches and charities have benefitted from the choir's input, including the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, who invited YCGC to perform a concert in Scarborough in December 2013 and raised £1500.
